Stephan van de Wijgert magisterskie studia organowe w Konserwatorium w Utrechcie ukończył w 2001 recitalami na XVII-wiecznym instrumencie Hagerbeera w Nieuwe Kerk w Amsterdamie oraz na wielkich organach Bätza w Katedrze św. Marcina w Utrechcie. W utrechckim konserwatorium ukończył również dyrygenturę chóralną. Do jego nauczycieli zaliczali się: Véronique van den Engh, Jan Raas, Reitze Smits, Matteo Imbruno, Erik Visser oraz Jan Welmers. Brał udział w kursach mistrzowskich prowadzonych przez tak znakomitych wirtuozów gry organowej, jak Gustav Leonhardt, Ewald Kooiman, Martin Haselböck, Maria Nacy czy Montserrat Torrent. W 2005 i 2007 był laureatem kolejnych edycji Międzynarodowego Konkursu Sweelinckowskiego odbywającego się w Oude Kerk w Amsterdamie.

Stephan Wijgert jest od 2008 dyrektorem muzycznym De Duif Kerk – byłego kościoła katolickiego położonego przy jednym z głównych kanałów Amsterdamu, w którym na odrestaurowanym dziewiętnastowiecznym instrumencie Smitsa odbywa się cykliczny prestiżowy międzynarodowy festiwal organowy. Od 2016 jest także dyrektorem artystycznym Międzynarodowych Koncertów Organowych w Opactwie Berne w południowej Holandii, festiwalu ustanowionego w 1957, podczas którego występowali niemal wszyscy najsłynniejsi organiści świata. Od 2022 organizuje również koncerty organowe dla Stadsherstel Amsterdam w tamtejszym Amstelkerk i Oosterkerk. Z kolei w Mijdrecht organizuje od 2023 cykl comiesięcznych koncertów, których tematem przewodnim są odrestaurowane organy regionu Maarschalkerweerd.

Artysta występuje z licznymi koncertami w Holandii i w Europie; dawał recitale w tak prestiżowych miejscach, jak Grote of St. Bavo-Kerk w Haarlem, Katedra św. Bawona w Haarlem, Aa-Kerk w Groningen, Katedra św. Jana w ‘s-Hertogenbosch, jak również wielokrotnie koncertował w ramach festiwali w Belgii, Niemczech, Polsce, Estonii i we Włoszech. Jest również dyrygentem chóru i pełni funkcję organisty w kościele Kosmy i Damiana w Abcoude.

Stephan van de Wijgert – an organist, choir conductor and concert organizer. He studied at the Conservatory of Utrecht, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in 1998 and his master’s degree in 2001. His graduation recitals took place at leading venues, including the 17th-century Hagerbeer organ in the Nieuwe Kerk in Amsterdam and the Dom Church in Utrecht. Stephan studied with renowned teachers such as Véronique van den Engh, Jan Raas, Reitze Smits, Matteo Imbruno, Erik Visser, and Jan Welmers. He further refined his style through masterclasses with, among others, Gustav Leonhardt, Ewald Kooiman, Martin Haselböck, Maria Nacy and Montserrat Torrent. In 2005 and 2007 he received awards at the International Sweelinck Competition in Amsterdam. Since 2008 he has been organist and Director of Music at De Duif on the Prinsengracht in Amsterdam, a former 19th-century Catholic church that is now used as a concert hall. There he plays the monumental 19th-century Smits organ and organizes the Sunday Afternoon Organ Concert Series, comprising 25 concerts per year. Since 2022 he has also organized organ concerts for Stadsherstel Amsterdam at the Amstelkerk and the Oosterkerk church. As Artistic Director of the concert series at the Abbey of Berne – an internationally renowned organ festival – he has been building a high-level program since 2016. In Mijdrecht he has organized a monthly concert series since 2023 centered around the restored Maarschalkerweerd organ, featuring organ and chamber music, improvisation, and innovative collaborations. Stephan has performed in major churches throughout the Netherlands, including the Grote or St. Bavo Church and the Cathedral Basilica of St. Bavo in Haarlem, the Der Aa Kerk in Groningen, and St. John’s Cathedral in ’s-Hertogenbosch. Internationally, he has appeared in Belgium, France, Italy, Germany, Estonia, Poland, and Switzerland. In addition to his work as a performer and organizer, he is active as a choir conductor and serves as organist of the Cosmas and Damianus Church in Abcoude.
